VEEAM issues after installing KB4015553

Following error can occure:

“An operation on a socket could not be performed because the system lacked sufficient buffer space or because a queue was full”

Please remove KB4015553 from the Windows Updates. (reboot needed)

Cannot mount vPower NFS VEEAM

Today I encountered the issue that I could not run a SureBackup from an ESX server. Although the ESX server (vmkernel) could ping the Veeam Backup server and coudl connect tot the NFS service (Port 111 and 6161).

I finally saw that there was also a Service NFS running. Disabling this service did not help.

At last i just removed the “Service fro NFS” from the Windows 2012 R2 Storage server.

A reboot is needed AND…. the Surebackup run.

So. If you have a Windows Storage server and you install Veeam Backup and Replication on it. Remove the Service for NFS from it to make vPower NFS work.

VMware Backup Pre- And Post-Commands

Version of ESX Custom quiescing script directory
ESX/ESXi 3.5 Update 1 or earlier
C:\Windows\<pre-freeze-script.bat>
C:\Windows\<post-thaw-script.bat>
ESX/ESXi 3.5 Update 2 or later

C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware Tools\backupScripts.d\
ESXi 5.1 and ESXi 5.5
C:\Windows\<pre-freeze-script.bat>
C:\Windows\<post-thaw-script.bat>

Windows:

To create a sample wrapper script,  you can create a text file and name it vcb.bat.
echo off
if "%1" == "freeze" goto doFreeze
goto doThaw
:doFreeze
call c:\windows\pre-freeze-script.bat
goto EOF
:doThaw
call c:\windows\post-thaw-script.bat
:EOF

Linux:

For Linux VMs, the scripts should be named

     /usr/sbin/pre-freeze-script

     /usr/sbin/post-thaw-script

Both must have 0755 permissions so that they are executable, and should be owned by root.

Veeam:
Make sure that ““Enable VMware Tools quiescence” is enabled, cauusing the scripts to be call to.

Robocopy usage

As I use more often RoboCopy to get files from one server to the other. Here is what I use to get this done:

@ECHO OFF
 ROBOCOPY "<source>" "<target>" /COPYALL /DCOPY:T /MIR /SEC /e /R:1 /W:1 /mt:4 /LOG:"C:\temp\<filename>.log"
 exit

The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed

Sometimes, and in my case after a failes “Migrate to production” of a server (as the ESX host died on me while migrating). After a Full VM Recovery the server won’t logon to the domain.

What to do:

Open a Command Prompt as Administrator (logged on localy)

And enter following command:

netdom.exe resetpwd /s:<server> /ud:<user> /pd:*
Where:
<server> is the domain controller of the domain.
<user> is the domain\user administrator user for the domain.
the pd:* will ask you for the password.

You should recieve a success.

REBOOT and logon to the domain.

Storage guy going App-v

OK. This week for serious. Going for App-v. After first doing the necessary (Pre)-Intakes, this week finally going for Packaging.

Nice for a Linux guy, doing Windows ‘debugging’.

However. A very nice step for me and still wishing to learn more. Tomorrow an other day.

App-V …. Here I come :-)

Start button doesn’t work in Windows Pro 8.1

After upgrading my laptop and the last reboot I found out my Start button (of my first (laptop) screen) did not react to my mouse clicks. (On my second screen it worked fine).

Seems you should do next:

1 – Go to: C:\Users\Default\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows and copy the WinX folder.
2 – Go to: C:\Users\[your user name]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows and replace the WinX folder

(I zipped the old one, just to be sure)

Log out and logon again.

Start button works fine again

Have fun!

google sync error -2147319779

When running / installing Google Sync you might encounter error -2147319779 when trying to sync with your google calendar.

Try this to fix it.

Start > RUN > Regedit

Search for: Computer/HK_CLASSES_ROOT/Typelib/{00062FFF-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}

Make sure Outlook and Google Sync of stopped.

Rename 9.3 and/or 9.4 to anything i.e 9.3old / 9.4old.

If this does not work. Export the key and delete it form the registry.

(In my case Windows 7, Outlook 2007 9.4 had to be deleted, rename did not to the trick)
